Airports to use RFID on passengers
Manchester Airport trials use of radio frequency identification tags to track passengers.
Manchester Airport has trialled the use of radio frequency identification (RFID) tags to track passengers.
According to a report in the Telegraph newspaper, some 50,000 volunteers were tagged over the six-month trial. When the system is rolled out, the RFID tag will be attached to boarding cards at check in, or for those who printed their own boarding cards, when they pass through security.
"It enabled us to see how much time passengers spent airside and how efficient our security was," the airport's head of innovation, Yemmi Agbegi, told the Telegraph.
