BT in IP telephony deal with Ciba

Chemical company Ciba Specialty Chemicals is to deploy IP telephony at its offices and factories around the world. The company will have equipment and services supplied by BT.

Under the terms of the deal, the telco will provide a broad package of managed ICT-services to Ciba's operations in 120 countries around the world, including five locations in the UK.

This includes deploying a global IP telephony solution running across a BT managed Lan and Wan service, a global IT security solution and a flat rate voice service.

BT will also provide the chemical company with improved cost management for existing infrastructure and will also update Swiss-based Ciba's networked IT services over the lifetime of the agreement.

Kevin Ackling, vice president global sales and account manager at BT Global Services said that the agreement will provide significant benefits for both companies.

"We are extremely proud that Ciba has entrusted the delivery of its global networked IT services to us and we look forward to extending our relationship over the coming years," he said.

Michael Loechle, chief information officer at Ciba said that the company needed to "be able to fully focus on our core competencies, while relying on a secure and efficient networked IT service infrastructure" and that she was confident that "this new stage in our relationship will help us maximise the quality of our service."

The financial terms of the deal were undisclosed.
