DSL, SMS and streaming video tops for non-voice mobile services
Research firm Analysys has picked the 10 best non-voice services to boost ARPU for mobile operators.
The world's best performing non-voice services for mobile operators have been identified by research firm Analysys.
Broadband, SMS, video and email services were all represented, with the UK's O2 and 3 operators taking top spots for their texting and video streaming respectively.
"With falling voice average revenue per user (ARPUs), mobile operators now need to drive non-voice services", said study co-author Dr Alastair Brydon.
The service with the most potential was Vodafone's Fastweb DSL in Italy. "The top service may be a surprise to some," said Dr Mark Heath, co-author of the report. "However, DSL services can generate average monthly revenue of at least four times current non-voice ARPU levels. All of our top ten have great potential to drive operator ARPU."
1. Vodafone's Casa FASTWEB DSL service (Italy)
2. O2's SMS service (UK)
3. 3's 3G mobile TV and video streaming service (UK)
