Tandberg Data launches LTO-3 tape drive
New half-height tape storage drive boasts space saving, environmental and compliance features.

Tape storage company Tandberg Data has unveiled its new half-height LTO-3 HH drive which it said will help users meet regulatory compliance.
The new drives, aimed at midrange and departmental servers, have 400GB native capacity and a 60MB/sec native transfer rate.
The company said that the drive had a 128MB buffer and a wide range of adaptive transfer rates which offered improved reliability and increased performance. The drives also boast a low operational power consumption of 13W which it said increases its Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF) rates.
"The Tandberg LTO-3 HH drive is based on years of experience with development and manufacturing of tape drives, and of Tandberg Data's building blocks of the LTO-1 and LTO-2 Half Height Drives", says Pat Clarke, executive vice president of global sales, marketing and service at Tandberg Data.
The drives also support WORM (Write Once, Read Many) functionality, which said the company would help companies meet regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley, which govern how long data should be retained, kept secure and remain unaltered.
The Tandberg Data LTO-3 Half Height drive starts at $2750 (1375) and comes bundled with a copy of Symantec Backup Exec QuickStart Edition.
