Huawei Technologies has announced what it says is the world's first 3G data card with integrated mobile TV at the CeBIT technology fair in Hanover.
The new E510 module hooks up to a PC or laptop via USB and, as a HSDPA/HSUPA device, maximum theoretical downloads speeds are 7.2Mb/sec and uploads up to 2MB/sec.
Huawei did not confirm which mobile TV standard it supports, though DVB-H is prevalent in Germany - and across Europe - where the announcement was made. No price or on-sale dates were given either.
At the show, Huawei also announced fourth generation multi-standard base stations (BTS). These support GSM, UMTS, LTE, CDMA and WiMAX, enabling a smooth migration from traditional to ALL IP and LTE networks.
The new base stations are designed to help operators enhance energy efficiency, reduce emissions, speed network roll-outs and reduce total cost of ownership (TCO).
Huawei also showcased its technologies and mobile broadband products at last month's Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona. "Mobile network technology changes so rapidly that we are constantly having to design innovate solutions today that meet the future needs of the telecommunications industry," Yu Cheng dong, president of Huawei's mobile network, said at the time.
