Motorola appoints new phones boss
Former chief operating officer from a chip firm parachuted in to the struggling phone maker ahead of its demerger.

Motorola has announced that Sanjay Jha, the former chief operating officer of mobile phone chip maker Qualcomm hs been hired as co-chief executive of its struggling mobile phone business.
The appointment comes ahead of a planned spin-off of the phone business into a separate company, and Jha will share the role with current chief executive Greg Brown.
Motorola has been looking for a new chief for its mobile phone unit since early this year. Some investors had been worried that the company was having trouble attracting strong candidates.
The company has struggled with market share losses in the mobile phone unit due to a lack of advanced phones or a strong follow-up to its once-lauded Razr V3 phone.
Jha, 45, had worked at wireless chip supplier Qualcomm since 1994.
