A Korean company called Nanovision is introducing small LCD monitors that can be easily plugged into a PC or laptop via USB, without need for an additional video port.
The 7in Nanovision MIMO LCD is powered by DisplayLink, a technology we have looked at before in an earlier monitor review. It enables a display to be quickly added to a system via USB, using its own built-in auto-loading drivers.
The company said that these small displays are convenient as they use a single USB port for both power and connectivity. They're also an easy way to extend desktops and a perfect at-a-glance' place to put gadgets and widgets, such as instant messaging boxes and news and weather tickers.
The entry-level UM-710 offers an 800 x 480 resolution and can be swivelled around to either landscape or portrait mode - for photos, click here.
Moving up, the UM-730 includes an integrated 1.3-megapixel webcam, microphone and earphone jack, so it could be used as a dedicated Skype terminal. The UM-750 adds touch-screen functionality.
The 7in displays will be made available in the UK and Italy in early December, and will cost between 70 and 90.
