BT Wi-Fi usage doubles in 2008
With millions of minutes of traffic, is this the peak for Wi-Fi usage in the UK?
BT Wi-Fi users have doubled their usage from last year, according to new figures.
BT Openzone and BT FON network users used twice the number of minutes between April and September 2008 than they did the year before, and are 57 per cent on the previous six months.
It was claimed that traffic averaged more than a million minutes per day and eight million minutes per week.
BT customers have been fortunate enough to see an explosion in Wi-Fi hotspots since October 2007 to over 120,000 UK and Ireland locations. This was thanks to the BT FON network, where members can share their network connection.
BT Openzone also manages 3,000 extra hotspots. However, back in September, BT did lose 6,500 hotspots after its five year deal with The Cloud expired.
