T-Mobile launches new email service
A new monthly fee-paying service from T-Mobile enables users to access email straight from their phones.
T-Mobile has launched a new instant email service allowing customers to access their email direct from their mobile phones.
The service costs 3.50 a month but is available on a free trial basis for one month. Users can upload up to five email accounts, such as Google Mail or Hotmail and each can be separated out into different inboxes.
"Mobile email is nothing new for business customers, but we think everyone should have easy access to their inbox on the phone of their choice," said Richard Warmsley, head of internet and entertainment at T-Mobile. "All our customers want to be up to date and involved with what's going on and receiving and sending emails straight to your phone just makes life a little easier."
It is initially only available on a selection of Nokia devices but will be rolled out across other T-Mobile handsets in the future.
The service "allows people to see emails as they arrive without the hassle of logging on or going online", according to T-Mobile.
Along with the email, the service can back up and update phone numbers, email addresses and calendar to the phone. The monthly fee will include all emails and attachments and, when abroad, the service will be "opt-in" meaning customers will have to choose to have it switched on overseas.
