Virgin Media to offer Gmail
Virgin Media will start to offer Google Mail to its massive consumer customer base in addition to businesses.
Virgin Media has announced that is will be offering Google Mail to its home broadband customers.
Customers will get 7GB of storage and with an '@virginmedia.com' email address. The new email service will be one of the largest deployments of Google Partner Edition Apps allowing businesses to use Google's communication and collaboration applications under their own domain names too.
Alex Green, executive director of Online for Virgin Media, said: "With email so important in everyday life, we're delighted to be working with Google and launching a brand new, feature-rich and easy to use email service."
The service will be piloted to the next 20,000 new Virgin Media customers from today but will be rolled out to its entire customer base of four million shortly after at no cost to the subscriber.
Customers accessing their email through the web-based interface will be able to take advantage of instant messaging features and organise emails into threaded conversations.
