Office Service Pack 2 (SP2) is set for release on later this month, Microsoft has announced.
The update made available on 28 April will affect the 2007 Office suite as well as 2007 Office Server products.
The main change is the ability to save Word, Excel and PowerPoint files in Open Document Format. There will also be updates to graphics handling and an improved uninstall tool, Microsoft engineers wrote on the Office blog.
SP2 will add support for the newly-released Internet Explorer browser in addition to forthcoming versions of Windows Vista and 7 and Server 2008.
In addition to the technology changes, Microsoft has also promised better documentation. "Gone are the days of the long-winded or too sparse knowledge base articles that do little to describe what's included in the actual service pack or that include details that may not be what you are looking for," the post said, explaining that the information will be moved to Microsoft's TechNet site and spreadsheets with bug fixes are "back by popular demand."
