Acer recalls overheating Aspire laptops

Acer has recalled five of its Aspire notebooks after an overheating cable was found to be warping the case and damaging the system.

"It has come to our attention that certain Acer Aspire notebooks may overheat under specific conditions," the notice on the Acer site said. "Acer is therefore voluntarily instituting a safety recall for these products."

"In the affected units the microphone cable may overheat when extreme pressure is applied repeatedly to the left palm rest," it added. "As a result, the unit case may become deformed and the system may malfunction."

The affected models are the AS3410, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG, but only if they were made before 15 September.

Apple has previously had to recall Sony notebook batteries due to overheating issues.
