Windows 8 to arrive in 2012
The dust is yet to settle from the launch of Windows 7, and Microsoft is already planning its next operating system.
Windows 8 is set to arrive in 2012, according to roadmap documents unveiled last week at Microsoft's Professional Developers Conference.
Website Microsoft Kitchen had slides showing the Redmond giant's plans for the next release, with the next operating system - cleverly codenamed Windows 8 - set to arrive in about 2012. The next version of Windows Server should arrive then, too.
The time frame is in keeping with previous release cycles, with Vista released to businesses in 2006.
Windows 7 has won glowing reviews and seen record sales since its launch last month, according to Microsoft.
