Palm Pre users lose cloud data

Palm

Palm Pre users have lost data from the company's cloud backup service, it has been confirmed today.

The device, only launched in the UK last month, is having problems restoring data from Palm's cloud if the user resets their handset and attempts to restore their backed up data.

UK customers can breathe a sigh of relief for now, as it only seems to be US users reporting the problem leading to lost calendars, memos and tasks.

A statement from the company said: "Palm is aware that a small number of customers have experienced issues transferring their Palm Profile information to another Palm webOS device."

It added: "Palm and Sprint are working closely together to support these customers to successfully transfer their information to the new device."

The backup failure is similar to that faced by T-Mobile Sidekick users in the US back in October. Danger, a subsidiary of Microsoft, ended up deleting users' backed up data due to a technical glitch in its cloud system.
