Microsoft to announce tablet at CES?
Reports are suggesting that today will see Microsoft's chief announcing the release of a tablet PC.
Rumours are rife that Microsoft will today announce a new tablet PC, taking the wind out of Apple's sails for its similar announcement expected later this month.
Steve Ballmer is due to give a keynote speech at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas later today and the New York Times has reported sources close to the scene revealing a tablet PC will be high on the agenda.
Photos of the rumoured device were leaked onto the internet back in September last year but have yet to be confirmed by the company.
The slate PC is expected to be made by HP and include e-reader and multi-touch capabilities.
IT PRO contacted Microsoft for comment but the company declined to give us any information on the tablet or details of the pending speech.
The focus for upcoming tablets has so far been going Apple's way as a device was expected to be announced at the company's last event which saw Steve Jobs' first public appearance since his illness.
However, the device never surfaced and it is now expected that an Apple event later this month will see the grand unveiling.
