O2 only selling iPhone 4 to existing customers initially
Limited stock supply means O2 will be limiting sales of the iPhone 4 to existing customers for the first month.
iPhone users keen to switch networks to O2 may be heading for disappointment as the mobile giant has confirmed that it will only have enough iPhone 4 devices to sell to its mobile or broadband customers for the first month.
O2 said in a statement it was forced sell "exclusively" to existing customers at launch because of low stock.
"iPhone stock will be extremely limited in the UK at launch and not everybody who wants one will be able to get one straight away," O2 said in a statement. "We want to make sure that our existing customers get priority so until at least the end of July, only existing O2 customers will be able to get an iPhone 4 from us."
The iPhone 4 will be available to any mobile or broadband customer that signed up with the firm before 24 May.
"As soon as we are able to, we will offer iPhone 4 to everyone who wants one on O2," O2 said in a statement.
Rival Vodafone said it would be selling the iPhone to new customers, while Orange was not yet available for comment. Record demand has forced Apple to push back delivery dates for its own customers.
