Caxton in Cambridgeshire and Malvern in Worcestershire have been revealed as the current frontrunners of BT's Race to Infinity competition.
BT launched the nationwide survey last month as it sought to garner how the level of fibre broadband support differs between parts of the UK.
The five communities which express the most desire to gain fibre capabilities will gain them and over 200,000 votes have already been cast.
Caxton and Malvern are leading the pack at the moment with over 1,000 votes each so far, but other areas have until 31 December to catch up.
"There is still quite a way to go until we reach the finishing line and everything to play for," said Peter McCarthy-Ward, BT's East of England regional director.
"I hope news that these communities who have already registered 1,000 votes will spur people into action as this data will help BT determine where fibre broadband will be deployed in the coming years."
While the top five will get the fibre they desire, BT said it will engage with any community not winning the competition where at least 75 per cent of homes and businesses have voted for super-fast broadband.
According to BT, many people have signed up to become volunteer campaigners to encourage residents to get voting.
