Week in Review: Mobile on the tube for your iPad2?

Going Underground?

Mayors both past and present have touted the idea of providing mobile access across London's tube network, but this week the deal seemed closer than ever.

Reports suggested Huawei was on the brink of signing a deal with Transport for London (TfL) to provide the infrastructure, whilst Thales was thought to be handling the installation.

Not everyone was as keen as BoJo about the network though, as a survey this week by GoodMobilePhones.co.uk showed more than three quarters of Londoners didn't want mobiles on the tube.

We will have to wait and see if they are getting worked up over nothing.

The iPad 2 looms

The internet has been awash with rumours about the iPad 2. While this is something that has been happening since the original iPad was launched, this time details of an Apple-hosted event next Wednesday have given more gravitas to the hearsay.

The event is likely to be hosted by chief operating officer Tim Cook as Steve Jobs is currently on medical leave.

Microsoft had an embarrassing week as the first update to its mobile operating system, Windows Phone 7, caused numerous handsets to crash.

The server market had happier new though as research from Gartner claimed it had returned to growth following a tough time during the economic downturn.
