iPad 2 steals PlayBook’s thunder with launch details

iPad 2

We knew the iPad 2 was coming to UK stores this Friday, but Apple has just confirmed it won't be launching as the shop doors open.

A press release sent out by the Cupertino company announced the tablet would only go on sale at 5pm, following the example set by the US on 11 March, but going against previous morning launches.

However, if you are not one for queuing outside in the Spring sunshine, the iPad 2 will be available online from 1am.

The announcement from Apple has come a matter of hours after Research in Motion announced the availability of its BlackBerry PlayBook in the US and Canada going on sale from 19 April. The PlayBook is yet to have a confirmed date for launch in the UK though.

As well as the UK, the iPad 2 will go on sale in 24 more countries on Friday, including France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

Wi-Fi only models will cost 399 for 16GB, 479 for 32GB model and 559 for 64GB. For Wi-Fi with 3G models, the price tags will be 499.00 for 16GB, 579 for 32GB and 659 for 64GB.
