The leading figure for mobile technologies at Intel has stepped down from his role, with little explanation as to why.
Anand Chandrasekher held the position of senior vice president and general manager of the Ultra Mobility Group, which turned out to be his last position after 24 years at the company.
Despite dedicating almost a quarter of a century to Intel, the only reason cited for his leaving was to "pursue other interests."
Mike Bell and Dave Whalen, vice presidents of the Intel Architecture Group (IAG), will take on the role between them from today.
The departure of Chandrasekher comes at a time when Intel could be losing the fight against its rivals. Increasingly, mobile manufacturers have looked to UK company ARM for the chips to go in their devices, along with Qualcomm and Nvidia.
Although still the dominant force in the PC world, Intel hasn't managed to make the same impact on the smartphone and tablet markets.
However, as part of a very short statement released by Intel today, David Perlmutter, executive vice president and general manager of IAG, said the company remained "committed" to the mobile space.
"We continue to make the investments needed to ensure that the best user experience on smartphones and handhelds runs on Intel architecture, and to ship a phone this year," he added.
