Firefox 4 smashes IE9 downloads
Microsoft bragged about its download rate in the first 24 hours, but Mozilla’s latest browser has doubled the number.
Mozilla Firefox 4 has been downloaded over six million times, just one day after launch.
As the figure continued to grow, it also managed to embarrass its rival Microsoft, as its new Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) managed less than a half the downloads in its first 24 hours.
Although the new version of Firefox's browser hasn't surpassed its predecessor Firefox 3 received over 8 million downloads in its first 24 hours the praise Firefox 4 has won seemed to be pushing Mozilla's new web browser into cutting down the distance to IE, which still wins by market share.
One of the causes for this Firefox supremacy might be IE9's failure for business users, due to its incompatibility with Windows XP still the operating system used by most companies.
Although the race is more of a marathon than a sprint, Firefox 4 is far ahead of IE9 at the start. We will see if Microsoft manages a come back.
