Pub and restaurant chain chooses Fujitsu for cloud migration
Mitchells & Butlers signs multi-million pound deal with Fujitsu to create a private cloud.
Fujitsu has signed a multi-million pound deal with Mitchells and Butlers (M&B) to migrate the restaurant and pub operator's IT infrastructure to a private cloud service and managed network.
M&B is making the move to cloud in a bid to save money on IT infrastructure and deliver a more flexible solution to meet the company's needs as it expands both its range of brands and the number of businesses it runs across the UK.
Fujitsu already provided M&B's tills and associated hardware but will now also deliver a range of on-demand services to improve customer service, such as dynamic menus, queue management and interaction with customer devices such as smartphones.
The deal will see Fujitsu standardise M&B's server infrastructure within its datacentres in London, linked by a secure network. IT applications will be virtualised for scalable hosting on Fujitsu's Infrastructure-as-a-Service and Storage Managed Service offerings.
M&B commercial director Robin Young said the company needed to take a "radically different" approach in order to forge ahead with ambitious growth plans.
"We needed technology that didn't require migrating our entire IT estate to the cloud overnight, but a move over time to reflect business needs," he said.
