The Nokia Lumia 800 will launch on 16 November, just a day before the Google Android-powered Samsung Galaxy Nexus, according to reports.
The Nokia device will cost 399 for pay-as-you-go customers, mobile provider 3 revealed. The Galaxy Nexus, which comes with a 4.65in high-definition super AMOLED display and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, is expected to cost around 550.
It means the Lumia 800 will cost 100 less than a bottom of the line iPhone 4S, whilst the Galaxy Nexus will be 50 more.
Nokia will be hoping to regain some lost ground in the smartphone space.
Orange has already opened up registration for the Nokia phone, but not revealed pricing plans, whilst Vodafone has confirmed it will stock the device.
The Lumia was unveiled by Nokia in London last month, with many onlookers saying it was make or break time for the mobile manufacturer.
The Lumia 800 comes with an eight-megapixel camera, an 800x480 pixel 3.7in AMOLED screen and 16GB of on-board, non-expandable storage, amongst other features.
The Lumia 710 the cheaper version of Nokia's Windows Phone 7 device - will not be available until the first half of 2012.
Nokia is hoping to regain some lost ground in the smartphone space, which has seen Apple and Samsung establish a solid lead over rivals. Samsung was named the number one smartphone shipper last month, overtaking the iPhone maker, with Nokia in third.
