Fortunately, VeryPC caters for more demanding users with a range of upgrades. The next model up in the rangethe BLD5440-B-80S comes with an Intel Core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM for 619 exc VAT, while upgrading this to a beefier Core i7 chip sees the price rise to 670 exc VAT.
VeryPC also offers a workstation model for power users. This is the most expensive Broadleaf configuration and while it reverts back to an Intel Core i5 processor, it also comes with a 500GB hybrid hard drive and an NVIDIA Quadro graphics card for 699 ex VAT.
The upgrade options don't stop at components either, and VeryPC also offers a range of corporate branding options for a more bespoke set-up. Systems can also be imaged at the factory with specified software for a one-off fee of 129 ex VAT and then 13 per PC, which can be a real time-saver if lots of computers are being deployed.
The Broadleaf PC reviewed here is certainly a frugal option when it comes to power consumption, but not when it comes to the price. 534 exc VAT is rather steep to us when the similarly specified Lenovo ThinkCentre M91 and Fujitsu Esprimo E4500 compact desktop PCs cost around 375 ex VAT and 390 ex VAT, respectively (though both come with much shorter warranties).
Even so, there is still plenty to like about the VeryPC that five-year warranty, the UK-based company and the green credentials for reduced running costs. But while the Broadleaf BLD5430-B-80S reviewed here is a sound business PC, it's also a premium option.
Verdict
It’s a solid if modest business PC that will sate the needs of most offices, its environmental credentials give it a boost over the competition – if that’s what you’re after – and it’s got an extremely generous warranty. Bear in mind, though, that similarly specified machines can be had for virtually half the price if you shop around.
