HP to launch Windows 8 ElitePad 900 tablet in January
The 10.1in ElitePad 900 business device will be powered by an Intel chip and start at £479 ex VAT.
HP is the latest manufacturer to unveil a Windows 8 enterprise tablet, as the battle between OEMs to grab a slice of the tablet market draws closer.
Key specifications of the ElitePad 900 include a 10.1in Gorilla Glass 2 display (1280 x 800) and the use Intel's Clover Trail chipset, which will allow the device to run Windows 8 Pro. This will also put the HP tablet in direct competition with fellow 10in Windows 8 tablets such as the Dell Latitude 10 and Lenovo ThinkPad 2.
HP aims to attract users to the ElitePad 900 with its security features. HP BIOS Protection, Security Manager and HP Drive Encryption will also be included as standard.
IT admins will be able to sign up to services from Computrace or the LANDesk Management Suite, which will allow them to set policies, manage, locate and remotely wipe devices.
Other confirmed specifications include two built-in cameras (8-megapixel rear and 1080p front-facing) and the option to have 3G/4G connectivity built-in. HP has yet to confirm battery life but the firm has said there will be up to 64GB SSD storage space available as well as micro SD card support.
A range of accessories will be offered to boost the capabilities of the tablet. An expansion jacket will add connectivity including USB and HDMI ports.
The ElitePad rugged case will provide military-grade protection, making the device a contender for deployment in outdoor environments such as the construction industry.
