Ocado fails to deliver after tech glitch hits customer delivewries
Internal error leads to embarrassment for largest online grocery retailer.
Thousands of online shoppers have been left without their groceries, after a computer error cancelled their orders.
The UK's largest online grocer blamed an "operational error" for the cancellation of an undisclosed number customer orders but added the problem has been fixed and service has now been "returned to normal."
In a statement, an Ocado spokeswoman said: "All customers whose order has been cancelled will have, or will soon receive, a phone call from Ocado customer service at which point they will be able to re-schedule their order."
"We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused," she added.
The grocery company also said customers would receive refunds and compensation where appropriate. However, the details of how this pledge will be delivered and who will be eligible have yet to be decided.
The failure follows a drop in sales during the Olympics, caused by congestion on the roads during London 2012.
