What is your top enterprise IT wish for the coming years?
Seamlessness. I want to be able to move between devices which enable me to write - or even "dictate" - a document, make a phone call, undertake a video conference without having to start up and shut down applications.
I would like to see the demise of all of the "Johnny come lately" cloud providers whose business model is predicated on signing up so many clients within a certain period of time in order to be viable.
It may be a dream, but the ability to pick up another device and continue from exactly where I left off on my previous device would make my life so much easier. The physical kit would then be of marginal interest. I can't see hardware manufacturers driving this forward with any great enthusiasm, but having a ubiquitous "Me" environment which follows me around would save me so much time and would make any workforce more effective.
If I could deploy that environment for my colleagues we could become a truly fluid, agile organisation.

The first-mover advantage is long gone. Building a client list to offer bread-and-butter cloud services when faced with mature providers in the market threatens to undermine the whole notion of cloud. Indeed, when the business model is proven to be flawed it subsequently fails. I'm not against innovation, but new cloud providers need to bring a compelling offering to the market and as I view the landscape at the moment it would be a rash CIO who puts their organisation's IT services in with a new company...

I have, indeed. I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't get to shout "Stop the press!"at some point, but other than that - it was very pleasing to sit and talk with friendly people who are at the cutting-edge of new technology and who are so avidly interested in the toys, the tools and the trends.
