IT provider Imerja has been snapped up by Intercity Technology for an undisclosed sum.

Imerja – a specialist in IT managed services, infrastructure and security – will provide Intercity with access to a number of public sector frameworks, including all four lots of the Government Digital Marketplace G-Cloud.

Founded in 1985, mobile and unified communications (UC) specialist Intercity has operations across the UK and Europe. The acquisition of Imerja follows its purchase of cloud communications, network services and hosting specialist Gage Networks earlier this year.

Headquartered in Bolton, Imerja also has offices in Hertfordshire and Leicestershire. All Imerja staff, including the senior management team, will be retained post-completion.

Imerja is fully accredited to ISO 14001, ISO9001, ISO27001 and is an approved Commercial N3 Aggregator, operating around the clock supporting its customers infrastructure from its UK Network Operations Centre. It also provides a range of hosted and cloud services from its two UK tier3 datacentres.

Speaking to Channel Pro in July, Imerja co-founder Mark Evans discussed the firm’s telemedicine services, which use Imerja’s own cloud-based Video as a Service (VaaS) solution. At the timre he said Imerja wanted to continue to push out VaaS to more telemedicine applications and on a national scale.

“I’m delighted to welcome Imerja to the Intercity Technology family,” says Andrew Jackson, CEO of Intercity in a statement. “Imerja brings a deep expertise in IT managed services and security, which allows us to offer our customers complete technology solutions across IT and telecoms. There is a strong cultural fit between our businesses and like us they focus on service excellence and technical knowledge to differentiate in the market.”

Adds Ian Jackson, MD of Imerja: “Being part of Intercity Technology will provide us with range of mobility and communications solutions to sit alongside our existing IT services; we are extremely excited to be a part of the Intercity Technology business.”

Jonathan Boyers, head of corporate finance for KPMG in the North and lead advisor on the deal, comments: “Imerja’s track record in providing high-quality secure IT solutions to enterprise and public sector organisations meant that it was a natural fit for Intercity Technology. The combined capability created by this acquisition, coupled with the addition of the experienced Imerja management team, will add significant strength to Intercity Technology’s existing portfolio of communications and IT services.”
