SAS acquires start-up Boemska, announces new CTO
Boemska's tools will be integrated into the Viya platform
SAS has announced the acquisition of UK-Serbian start-up Boemska, as the software analytics firm moves to enhance its Viya platform.
A privately held technology company, Boemska specialises in low-code/no-code application deployment and analytic workload management for the SAS advanced analytics platform.
Founded in 2010, Boemska has grown into an established SAS technology partner with a global customer base that includes customers in financial services, healthcare and travel.
The company’s ESM platform offers insight into the performance and behaviour of business-critical batch workloads and interactive self-service applications, helping to identify bottlenecks and optimise architecture for both cloud and on-premise setups.
Boemska’s offering will be integrated into the Viya platform, SAS says, enhancing the solution with a rich set of capabilities that help support the entire analytics lifecycle.
These include next-generation, cloud-native SAS application portability for mobile and enterprise apps, development and execution of no-code/low-code tech, as well as an enterprise workload management tool that provides cost-efficient migration and additional visibility for SAS workloads across multi-user environments.
“We have not only transformed the way in which we build and deliver software, with recent SAS Viya updates and a cloud partnership with Microsoft, but also the speed and manner with which customers can achieve value,” commented Bryan Harris, SAS executive vice president and CTO.

“Boemska’s technology puts SAS closer to where decisions are made, and available in cloud marketplaces for applications developers.”
Harris himself is also part of SAS’ recent reshuffle, with the company appointing the industry veteran as its new executive vice president and CTO.
With more than 20 years’ experience in the field, Harris has been a critical senior leader for SAS R&D over the last ten years. In his most recent role of senior vice president and Head of Engineering, he played a key role in the release of the SAS Viya platform.
“As CTO, Bryan will push SAS to continue leading the market and drive innovation as he leads the organisation to do what we do best: develop analytical solutions to address customers’ business problems, with an emphasis on continuous integration/continuous delivery and cloud-first technologies,” said SAS CEO Jim Goodnight.
