BT wins cloud contracts for 52 European government bodies

BT has won contracts to provide 52 European governmental organisations with cloud services, including the European Parliament, the European Council and the European Defence Agency.

The company will be responsible for implementing the infrastructure and services to power many of the EU's agencies, bodies and other organisations and will then be rolling out a variety of its services using a number of its Europe-wide data centres.

BT's cloud platform has been welcomed by Europe, because it meets all of the stringent data laws, including legislation around compliance, security and privacy, while also offering the flexibility of public clouds with the control and security of private clouds.

The services will all be managed using BT's Compute Management System, making it easier for IT managers and others within the organisation to keep track of the services in use, wherever staff are based in the world.

The contracts were originally granted in December last year and will run for at least five years. In total, they are worth more than €24 million (£18 million) according to BT.

"I’d like to take this opportunity to, once again, thank the EU for putting its trust in BT.”

The deal is the company's latest contract with the European Union, which it has had dealings with for the last ten years. Last August, it announced a €15.2m (£11.3m), two-year agreement with the European Commission to provide services to 21 authority bodies.
