A list of the country’s top 20 independent cloud computing businesses has been released by advisory firm Clearwater Corporate Finance.

The list, dubbed Cloudex 20:20, was compiled based on a variety of criteria, including innovation, the amount of income derived from the cloud, customer base, and turnover and profit growth.

The list includes a mix of companies, including Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) providers who the judges claim lead the cloud computing field.

While the majority of the finalists are in London and the South East (70 per cent), two are in the South West, three are in the North West and one is in the West Midlands.

Emma Rogers, director of TMT market intelligence at Clearwater and one of the judges, said: “The UK has been a relatively early adopter of cloud technology and there is now an impressive clutch of cloud businesses enjoying the benefit of the organic growth in the sector.

“Looking at the entrants to Cloudex 20:20, we were really encouraged by the quality out there.”

Fellow judge Angela Eager, an analyst at TechMarketView, said: “The UK has a host of good cloud companies and a lot coming through too. We have the innovation and the talent and the UK has been one of the most willing countries to adopt the cloud, too.”

In alphabetical order, the Cloudex 20:20 finalists are as follows:

An overall winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in the autumn.
