Microsoft has updated its cloud storage service, OneDrive, with new features for iOS devices.
Version 6.8 of the OneDrive app includes new features for the iPad Pro, and includes 3D Touch support for the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, as well as some stability fixes.
On iPad Pro, PDF annotations are now pressure sensitive, giving users the ability to change the weight of their strokes as they write or draw on the device’s screen. Support for the Apple Pencil has been optimised, too, allowing users to jot down handwritten notes and doodles directly in the OneNote app with greater precision.
Pressure sensitivity, known as 3D Touch, is a major feature of Apple’s latest iPhones and allows apps to display different information or button functions depending how forcefully users press down. For instance, a light tap can display a preview of an app’s contents, while a more forceful press can bring up a radial menu with additional opitons.
That is the extent of the feature updates for 6.8, although it also includes bug fixes and stability improvements.
Microsoft has increasingly been working with Apple, appearing on stage in September 2015 at the launch of the iPad Pro to highlight the virtues of the device for enterprise by showing Office applications running on the new tablet. Some of the features that Microsoft demonstrated included a split view, so users can work on one document, while viewing text or diagrams in another, and Slide Over, which give users quick access to full applications, such as OneNote, in a slimmer portion of the screen.
