Manchester City FC signs SAP as cloud partner

Manchester city

Manchester City Football Club has unveiled its latest summer signing as SAP, which it has picked as its official cloud provider.

The German tech giant has been tasked with improving productivity and fans' experiences through its virtualised set of tools, as well as simplifying operations and scaling business.

Its deal with the City Football Group (CFG), which owns Manchester City FC, also sees it partner with CFG's other clubs, New York City FC, Melbourne City FC and Yokohama F. Marinos football team, providing tools like HCM application SuccessFactors and social collaboration software SAP Jam.

Bill McDermott, CEO of SAP, said: “City Football Group is one of the most innovative and technology-driven football organisations in the world. We are so proud that SAP HANA and our cloud solutions will be enabling City Football Group’s vision for supporting the players and coaches while completely reinventing the fan experience.”

In addition to advising the clubs and improving their operations, SAP will work together with CFG to develop new and innovative applications that could help to analyse and improve the performance of players and coaches on the field.

“This partnership is as important as it is broad, stretching across all entities within the City Football Group,” said Khaldoon al Mubarak, chairman of CFG. “In SAP we have found a technology partner that is committed globally to our businesses and one that shares our constant drive for innovation.

“Our common ambition is to create groundbreaking football specific technology solutions and product and I have every confidence that we will be successful.”

This follows an earlier partnership between SAP and the German national football team, as together they developed SAP Match Insights using SAP HANA, allowing the team to collect and analyse relevant player data during training sessions.
