Mobile operating systems are becoming more important, but you can't write-off the importance of a good desktop operating system.
The redesigned mobile OS created has split users down the middle - some hate it, whilst others love the simplified look. Personally, we're fans of the layout and Apple has added a number of features to increase the functionality especially by adding in quick settings menus and gesture-based content.
Verdict: 4 stars
Whilst Microsoft has been busy fixing problems, Apple continues to improve the functionality of OS X by adding functionality every year.
Features introduced with Mavericks included support for multiple displays, new apps, tags and notifications. It was also the first Mac operating system update to be made available for free and even added another hour of battery life to existing hardware.

Verdict: 5 stars
This fixed many of the problems which plagued the original release - making it a necessity rather than a luxury. Updates include allowing users to boot straight to desktop and carry out a universal searches. Best of all it is free to download.
