On September 25, Camara London will host volunteers, donors and board members to celebrate the departure of its first shipment to Africa.
Earlier this summer, Camara issued a call for any unwanted IT equipment that it could refurbish and send to disadvantaged communities around the world.
This Thursday, a 20-foot shipping container packed with 500 much-needed computers will be sent to Dar es Saalam in Tanzania, and distributed to schools across the country. The shipment represents a huge milestone for Camara’s London refurbishment hub which opened earlier this year.
Based in Elephant and Castle, the hub collects used, surplus IT equipment from companies in the Greater London area, refurbishes them, and sends them to underprivileged schools in Africa, the Caribbean, and Ireland. These computers greatly enhance education and, in turn, the livelihood skills of the students who use them, thereby breaking the cycle of poverty.
If your company has computers to donate, please contact Camara on 0208 265 7681. Collection can be arranged for donations of 20 units or more within the M25.
