Tech data expands range of power protection services

Tech Data has revamped its range of power protection services in a bid to streamline partners’ ability to offer installation and maintenance services on power protection solutions.

The IT distribution giant is offering multiple different options for service and maintenance, which can be provided to – or on behalf of – partners. These range from single-room systems to large-scale data centres and multiple sites.

The service covers all makes and models of UPS, with Tech Data also able to provide the installation of backup generators, cooling system and fire suppression equipment, as well as battery replacements, it said.

Maintenance options include fast response times to emergency callouts, preventative maintenance visits (in or out of normal working hours), 24/7 support and remote monitoring.

Tech Data’s services director Mark Glasspool said the enhanced service options are a response to the growing needs of the firm’s partners.

“We’ve been receiving more requests for support and maintenance cover for power supplies,” he explained. “We have always had the capability to install and service UPS devices, and we’ve now extended it significantly and with these added options we can cover virtually any scenario.

“End-user customers of all sizes are more dependent than ever on their IT systems and with the skills shortage impacting both end-user and reseller partners, there is a much greater need for a trusted advisor and service provider partner that can step in and take care of essential tasks, while full-time IT staff and technicians focus on other, more complex and involved matters.”

The extension of Tech Data’s power installation and maintenance services marks the next step in the company’s wider drive to offer a broader framework of support services and help partners extend their value-added capabilities.

The additions build on the firm’s existing services, which include pre-delivery configuration, virtual warehousing, bill-and-hold (supply chain management), third-party logistics (3PL), and managed print.

“Our existing services are probably our best kept secret’, Glasspool continued. ‘We have always offered config’ services, for example, but we’ve been largely reactive. We’ve updated and simplified those services, invested in resource and streamlined processes, so we can work more closely with partners on opportunities.”

Tech Data also revealed it will be making “further significant investments” during 2022, which will see its portfolio extended to include additional installation and maintenance services, as well as retail merchandising.

“We have capacity to grow that business significantly and that’s going to be a fantastic opportunity for our partners, and we will also be bringing forward some new offerings,” Glasspool added.
