Virtus outlines plan to build London's biggest data centre site
The site will comprise two individual data centres, powering companies located inside the M25
Virtus will build London's biggest data centres to deliver 40MW of IT load to service customers in the area, making it one of the largest hybrid co-location facilities in the UK.
The data centres, called Virtus London5 and London6 will be built on an 4,000m2 campus in Stockley Park, West London. This means they will be on a major fibre route between central London, 16 miles away and 7 miles away from Slough where its London3 data centre is located, powering a huge area within the M25.
"With the hunger for connectivity and data growing exponentially, our data centres continue to play a vital role in enabling the UK and Europe's digital economy," Neil Cresswell, CEO of Virtus Data Centres said. "We work with clients across all industries, all with unique audiences and IT landscapes, but with the common need to deliver the highest levels of availability, performance and security of digital experiences."
The first businesses to benefit from Virtus's new data center facility will be customers that have already committed to the project and are already kitting out London5 at the moment. Preparation is well underway for the big switch on early next year, although Virtus hasn't revealed when London6 will be ready to go live.
"As we move with our customers into an increasingly digital future, we help them deliver high performing applications and content," Cresswell added. "We provide fast, seamless connectivity to networks and public clouds, along with the capacity for vast data storage and compute processing power - all for lower costs. This investment in London5 and London6 means we can grow with our customers and help them achieve their ambitions."
Virtus added building the biggest data centre facility in London will offer its customers a more reliable, efficient, secure, scalable and interconnected data centre in the city.
