Extreme Networks (NASDAQ:EXTR) has named Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO) exec Bob Gault as its new VP of global channels and partners.

The appointment follows Theresa Caragol’s move to VP of strategic sales initiatives at the networking vendor.

Gault says Extreme’s channel programme will become a core element of the firm’s growth strategy as it looks to position itself as the ‘on-ramp’ to the cloud for its 2,500 partners.

“Extreme has achieved a tremendous position with its channel partners during the past two years under Theresa’s leadership, having successfully integrated the channel programmes of two companies into a strong global channel partner ecosystem,” comments Jeff White, chief revenue officer for Extreme Networks, also a former long-time Cisco exec.

“With his unique skills and experience, Bob will further build our channel programme into a strategic asset for Extreme Networks and our partners to achieve growth.”

“I am excited to join Extreme Networks,” says Gault, who was most recently VP of Cisco’s cloud and managed services partner organisation where he drove the worldwide go-to-market strategy.

“Our commitment to partner profitability and innovation will be second-to-none. We will maintain a relentless focus on delivering wired and wireless networking, analytics and software solutions that will provide a world-class partner and customer experience.”

In October Extreme revealed an aggressive channel recruitment campaign to grab market share from Cisoc and HP (NYSE:HPQ).
