Intel unveils 10in Android tablet for schools
Reference design boasts specially-made software and accessories for interactive learning.

Intel has officially taken the wraps off an Android tablet specifically designed for use in schools as the firm looks to push high-tech equipment into classrooms.
Introduced as the prototype at the BETT 2013 trade-show, the Intel Education tablet is a ruggedised Android 4.0 device, available in 10in or 7in form factors.
The reference design is manufactured by Taiwanese based firm ECS. Core specifications include an Intel Atom Z2460 processor (1.6GHz), 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, placing the device in mid-range territory.
However, there are two key differentiators between the Education tablet and regular consumer Android devices, which makes the former ideal for interactive learning. Intel preloads its Education Software suite onto the device. This includes e-reading, science and data analysis applications along with note-taking, painting and interactive video tools.
Accessories that can be plugged into the tablet include a Lab Camera. This allows users to carry out a number of different science experiments - up to 60, according to Intel. The camera can be used to take time-lapsed imagery, be used microscope and to detect motion.
The Intel Education tablet also comes built in with administrative tools to help IT admins manage the devices and a five-year subscription to McAfee Mobile Security suite.
If devices are provided to the entire classroom, teachers manage content delivery from their PCs. They have the ability to transfer files to individual students or every student, monitor screens and chat with each pupils.
