Apple devices always clock in at the higher end of the price scale. The iPhone 5s starts at 550 for 16GB of storage.
Then again, Samsung priced its phone right behind the iPhone. The Galaxy S5 will set you back 522 without a SIM card for the 16GB model. It's cheaper, but not by much.
If you want the devices on contract, the iPhone 5s is cheaper. It starts at 38 per month with no upfront cost, whereas the newer S5 costs 42 per month if you don't want to make a down payment.
Winner - Draw - The S5 is cheaper SIM-free, but the iPhone 5s costs less on a contract.
Overall
The S5 has blown away the iPhone 5s. It triumphed in the five key areas of design/ports, screen, battery life, unique features and the camera.
Performance/enterprise features and pricing ended in a draw and the iPhone won a single category - the Fingerprint scanner.
We'd recommend the Samsung device if you want to upgrade at this time.
