iOS 7 adoption rate grows to 90 per cent for July
The adoption rate for iOS 7 hits 90 per cent and is still rising ahead of the imminent release of iOS 8
New figures collected over a seven-day period ending 13 Julyhave revealed that 90 per cent of Apple devices are running iOS 7, with the number continuing to rise ten months after the operating system's initial release.
The statistic was posted on the App Store developer support page, also revealed that 9 per cent of devices are running iOS 6 and 2 per cent an even earlier version.
Figures also indicate that the adoption rate for iOS 7 is still growing, increasing by 3 per cent from 87 per cent recorded in April 2014. Figures for iOS 6 and earlier have dropped.
Details of the upcoming iOS 8 launchwere revealed at Apple's annual Worldwide Developer Conference in June, which will feature new updates including split-screen functionality and HealthBook. At the conference, a 97 per cent satisfaction rate for iOS 7 was also highlighted.
Despite the high adoption rate for the previous iOS, however, it is expected that iOS 8 will take over quickly, with iOS 7 having landed on 74 per cent of devices within a few months of release. This has been attributed to the ease of installation for Apple's over-the-air updates.
