EE has expanded its 5G network to a total of 50 cities and towns across the UK, with nine new areas going live on Tuesday.
Customers in Hull, Leeds, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield and Sunderland can now access 5G services and also the towns of Northampton, Stevenage and Wakefield.
The telecoms firm said it has surpassed its target of introducing 5G to 16 UK cities in 2019 and has set itself a goal of 70 by March 2020.
The BT-owned company said it was leading the UK on 5G rollout and boasted about bringing 5G to more areas with high footfall, such as London Euston Station, Cardiff Central station, Glasgow's Bath Street and St Enoch Square, Belfast's Kingspan Stadium, and Coventry's Council House and Cathedral ruins.
"We switched on the UK's first 5G network in May, and this is another milestone towards keeping our customers connected 100% of the time," said Marc Allera, CEO of BT's consumer division. "We're leading the way in the UK, with 4G and 5G coverage in more places than any other operator. Adding 5G to more cities and towns – and expanding our 5G coverage in each place – is helping us to always deliver the best mobile experience to our customers."
The company has been up against Vodafone and Three for 5G bragging rights for most of 2019. In August, EE made allegations that Three has broke advertising regulations by misleading the public with claims that its network was superior. In the same week, O2 took a swipe at Vodafone by claiming it didn't offer 'real 5G'.
