Community Fibre launches fastest home broadband plan in London
At £99 per month, the 3 Gigafast broadband plan is considerably more expensive than Community Fibre’s other plans
Community Fibre has launched a new broadband plan which has already broken the record for the fastest available speed for residential customers in London.
At 3Gbits/sec for upload and download speeds, the 3 Gigafast broadband plan has been launched ahead of the UK’s second national lockdown, which is likely to see a considerable surge in broadband demand.
The news comes months after Community Fibre announced plans to invest £400 million over the next three years, in order to expand its high-speed broadband network across London to cover up to one million homes and businesses.
Using funds provided by private equity sources, the company vowed to deliver 10Gbits/sec speeds to businesses and 1Gbits/sec connections to households by 2023.
For the time being, the newly-announced 3 Gigafast broadband plan only covers Barnet, Brent, City of London, Croydon, Lewisham, Newham, Richmond upon Thames, Southwark, Sutton, Tower Hamlets, Wandsworth, and Westminster. However, Community Fibre said that it plans to expand the coverage to more London boroughs “in the near future”.
Available for £99 per month on a 24-month contract, the 3 Gigafast broadband plan is considerably more expensive than Community Fibre’s other plans: the 50Mbits/s Superfast (£20/month), the 300Mbits/sec Ultrafast Boost (£25/month), the 800Mbits/sec Hyperfast Boost (£35/month), and 1000Mbits/sec Gigafast (£49/month).
Its price is also set to be increased to £110/month after the 24-month contract ends. However, the plan offers additional perks including unlimited data and free custom installation.

Commenting on the launch, Community Fibre CEO Graeme Oxby said that the company is “delighted to show the advantage of full fibre networks in delivering much faster broadband speeds”.
“We have launched 3 Gigabit home broadband today and expect to go well beyond this in the future. We believe that multi-gigabit speed will be an essential need for homes and businesses, proving vital to the UK’s global competitiveness.
"By using 100% full fibre instead of outdated copper or hybrid cables, Community Fibre becomes the first to make multi-gigabit speed a reality in London, ensuring the capital’s communities are ready to cope with the increased broadband demands for years to come. With community at the heart of everything we do, we are also committed to provide the 3Gbits/sec access for free to multiple community centres across London,” he added.
