GE Healthcare will leverage VMware’s software-defined wide-area networking (SD-WAN) to enable faster, safer, and more convenient virtual care.
For its cloud-hosted applications, GE Healthcare offers OnWatch Network Edge. The platform allows for fully automated monitoring of critical subsystems within medical imaging, including CT scanners, MRI, and mammography machines. Should there be any deviation in equipment performances, OnWatch will send an alert, enabling proactive repairs.
By integrating VMware’s SD-WAN technology into OnWatch Network Edge, GE Healthcare will empower organizations to sync latency-sensitive data with the cloud and between edge locations without compromising security or quality of service.

VMware’s SD-WAN technology enables reliable deployment of latency-sensitive and data-intensive applications,” said Paul Jones, global product manager at GE Healthcare.
When a WAN link fails, VMware SD-WAN can identify and prioritize traffic for over 3,000 applications. Intrinsic safety features, including stateful firewalls, virtual network functions (VNFs), and configurable business policies, direct traffic to the designated cloud or data center.

VMware SD-WAN is available as part of VMware secure access service edge (SASE), which combines cloud networking and security in a comprehensive, standalone platform.
GE Healthcare previously integrated VMware's AIOps solution and Edge Network Intelligence with its OnWatch Network Performance software to help health care providers track their enterprise and clinical networks.
“Patient monitoring and diagnostic data analysis are moving from the datacenter to the edge. With this shift, healthcare providers and their technology partners require a software-defined, high-performing, secure network,” said Sanjay Uppal, senior vice president and general manager of service provider and edge at VMware.
Uppal added, “VMware SD-WAN provides this network overlay to prioritize and move high-fidelity, latency-sensitive data to the cloud and between edge locations. Leveraging VMware SD-WAN enables GE Healthcare to offer rapid, more securely deployed, and easily accessed virtual care solutions.”
