Intel announces new platform for the Internet of Things
Intel has launched a new platform to support the growth of the Internet of Things

Intel is launching an Internet of Things (IoT) Platform to support the smart technology's growth and make it easier for businesses to invest in it.
The end-to-end reference model has been designed by Intel to "simplify connectivity and security," for companies investing in IoT technology, with integrated hardware and software also launched alongside the platform that the company believe will usher IoT into mass use.
Intel has already joined with companies such as Accenture, Dell and SAP, and the platform is set to help make the deployment of smart devices much easier, removing roadblocks such as security from the equation and providing businesses with an established ecosystem from the start.
"Together," Mike Sutcliff, group chief executive at Accenture Digital, said, "we can enable clients to define a clear value strategy for the IoT and by using Accenture's industry experience and digital assets to complement Intel's IoT platform, we can create robust, end-to-end frameworks designed to overcome challenges associate with security, scalability and interoperability in IoT implementations."
The service will also make uncovering meaningful information from smart devices much simpler, Intel claims, offering more value to businesses and their customers.
Security has been a major concern surrounding the IoT, with researchers pointing out the dangers of connected devices around the home or at work. Companies thus have to commit to security and privacy when operating in the market.
Intel reiterates the potential for the technology to bring economic value to organisations, with the IoT Platform providing companies with an ecosystem with which to work.
