Cloud-based email security specialist Proofpoint (NASDAQ: PFPT) has appointed former Sophos exec Ciaran Rafferty as VP for Northern Europe, Middle East and Africa (NEMEA), with a primary focus on the UK.

According to the vendor, Proofpoint has revised its channel structure and Rafferty will be looking to “re-focus local resources” to ensure that it supports customers in NEMEA.

Rafferty is tasked with ensuring Proofpoint provides improved benefits for its channel and that its programme supports its partners. He comments: “Proofpoint’s strategy in NEMEA is key for 2013, and we see our commitment to a successful channel programme as central to this.

“Proofpoint is the only provider to offer cloud, virtual, and on premise, and is unique in being able to offer security in this format. As companies continue to realise the benefits of cloud, we are confident that Proofpoint can continue to make significant progress in the NEMEA market.”

Scott Haddow, CEO of Proofpoint partner Trustmarque Solutions, says Proofpoint’s hybrid offering of cloud and on-premise presents a lot of opportunity for the UK channel. “As the UK market increasingly turns to cloud security solutions, by working with Proofpoint we are positioning ourselves in the best possible place to support our customers as they begin to make this shift,” he comments.

Rafferty was VP NEMEA at Sophos, and was also responsible for sales and channel. Previous to Sophos he has worked at HP, SAP, Compaq and Seidor.
