Security-as-a-service vendor Proofpoint (NASDAQ: PFPT) has appointed former Clearswift CEO Richard Turner to lead its European operations.

Turner resigned from the position of Clearswift in July. Before that he spent 12 years at RSA, the security division of EMC, where his roles included VP for EMEA, VP EMEA & Asia Pacific and VP worldwide channels.

“Richard’s robust background, successful track record of fuelling company growth and knowledge of the EMEA region will be a major asset to the global team at Proofpoint,” comments Gary Steele, CEO of Proofpoint.

“His experience in developing and executing strategies for high touch enterprise sales teams, while also building channel organisations and inside sales teams, make him a very unique fit for this role. We welcome him aboard and look forward to strengthening our global strategy and expansion under his proven leadership.”

“Proofpoint’s excellent portfolio of technology solutions, fantastic market positioning and commitment to invest in the EMEA region, provides a strong foundation on which we can significantly expand our EMEA business,” adds Turner. “I look forward to working with the executive leadership, our staff and our partners to exceed our customers’ expectations around the region in the weeks and months ahead.”
