BAE Systems has won a $699 million contract from the US Army to support its high performance computing (HPC) centers around the country.
The five-year contract will see the company support Defense Supercomputing Resource Center (DSRC) operations, maintenance, and management services, including program-wide services for HPC users.
In an announcement, the firm said it will be supporting the Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP), which provides the Department of Defense (DoD) with supercomputing capabilities, high-speed network communications, and computational science expertise.
The initiative enables DoD scientists and engineers to conduct focused research and development, testing, as well as acquisition engineering capabilities. Essentially, it provides a complete advanced computing environment that includes software development and system design expertise, high performance computing, and a wide-area research network.
BAE, which successfully saw off three rival bids to land the contract, said the partnership will put advanced tech in the hands of US forces quickly and less expensively, and “with a greater certainty of success.”

Headquartered in London, BAE Systems specialises in multinational arms, cyber security, and aerospace and has grown to become the largest defense contractor in Europe.
This new contract will see the company provide the US Army with management and technical support to advance its HPC services, capabilities, infrastructure, and tech for a host of DSRCs.
These include the Navy DSRC, Stennis Space Center in Mississippi; the Army Corps of Engineers, Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) DSRC in Vicksburg, Mississippi; the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) DSRC, Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio; and the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) DSRC, Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland.
