After the Note 7 fiasco, the South Korean company might only launch its rumoured Galaxy S8 next year.
This was a tough year for Samsung, after Note 7 potentially exploding smartphones proved to be a sour failure.
The smartphone manufacturer could hence not be releasing two flagship models next year, investing all its energies in the new Galaxy S8.
This was reported by the Korea Herald that also suggests Samsung might now need to focus on producing a quality smartphone, to make up for the damage caused by the Note 7 release.
Rumours say the Galaxy S8 could come with a fingerprint scanner built directly into the screen and a more powerful hardware that enables mobile VR.
So far, Samsung has been releasing two smartphone devices per year, a Galaxy S model in the first half of the year and a Galaxy Note phablet towards the end of the year.
This year, however, the company could only be releasing a new Galaxy S model, and some speculated that the Note series could be dropped entirely, with the company focusing entirely on its Galaxy S devices from now on.
An official from one of Samsung's partner firms told the Korea Herald that "Samsung has not notified its suppliers of the plan to scrap the current two flagship models strategy, but if so that could impact the parts suppliers to some extent".
A marketing strategy change is, however, likely as the Note 7 failure has put the company's position in the market in jeopardy, and it is now attempting to salvage it.
The Galaxy S8 could be unvieled at MWC 2017, which will take place in Barcelona between 27 February and 2 March next year.
