Avaya has announced the appointment of Steve Joyner as its new managing director of the UK and Ireland, as it looks to step up its transition to a cloud-centric communications provider.

Reporting to vice president for Europe Ronald Rubens, Joyner is tasked with driving the firm’s “customer-first culture” and leading his regional team in helping customers get the most from their digital transformation, the company said.

The move marks another step on Avaya’s path to become a cloud-centric communications provider, with Joyner also set to drive its global cloud strategy in the UK and Ireland region.

“Steve’s appointment comes at an exciting time for Avaya with our transition to cloud and the strategic partnership with RingCentral & introduction of Avaya Cloud Office,” Rubens commented. “The company is poised to offer a real competitive advantage by providing our customers with a seamless journey to cloud communications.

“With his extensive industry experience, Steve will be instrumental in delivering our global cloud-first strategy in the region.”

No stranger to the company’s ambitions, Joyner began working at Avaya following the acquisition of Nortel back in 2009 and has held multiple engineering, sales and channel roles in the UK and the Middle East over his 30-year career.

In his most recent position, he fronted Avaya’s UK channel, leading a team of regional channel to drive significant growth through the firm’s extensive European partner and reseller network. He also played a critical role in improving its channel programs globally, as well as expanding the overall channel business, Avaya said.

"I am very excited to be taking on this role at such an important time in the Avaya story,” Joyner said. “The company has continued to lead the market in customer and employee experience in recent years and we’re ready to go even further in 2020.

“I look forward to working with the team here to drive growth and bring even more value to our partners and customers in the UK and Ireland with our full suite of cloud-first solutions.”
